How Some of Bitton Archers Discovered Their Passion

Another beginners’ course is set to begin under the wings of Bitton Archers this weekend though this time at the club’s indoors venue, The Park Centre in Knowle.

It begins on Saturday 18th October and will continue for the following five subsequent Saturdays with the final session on the 15th November – the 22nd as a backup if a session is cancelled.

The last beginners’ course concluded last month at the outdoors venue of Stothert and Pitt Rugby Football Club and below are three recounts from new and old Bitton Archers on how they found the club, the ArcheryGB certified beginners’ course and ultimately their newfound passion.

Mark – “As a returning archer I wanted to get my son Max into the sport. We both really enjoyed the course finding the members welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. We found the club online a few years ago but needed to wait for Max to be old enough.”

Lisbeth – “Lillian (age 9 at the time and Lisbeth’s daughter) did a bit of archery for PE at school, she loved it and wanted to carry on doing it. I searched for beginners’ courses online and found the club. She completed the course and became a member straight away, she loves everything about it and the members are all very helpful.

“I then got envious watching her shoot, so I decided to do the beginners course myself and joined the club. The coaches are so helpful and understanding, and the club has a great relaxed vibe that really helps to calm my mind when I go to shoot.”

Tomoi – “I sought out my local club (I live in Kingswood) after having a go at archery at an event at Chepstow Castle. Between work and young kids, I lead a pretty hectic lifestyle, and I wanted to start archery as a hobby that allowed me to concentrate deeply on one single action, rather than the usual everyday process of ‘getting things done.’

“As a discipline that makes you focus on a process that involves every part of your body, literally from the ground up, I find it quite meditative. The beginner’s course at Bitton was thorough, friendly, diverse and welcoming, and I’m so glad I did it.

“I’m now a full member and have just invested in my own kit. Every week I look forward to the next session.”

Whether rediscovering an old skill, following a child’s enthusiasm, or seeking calm and focus, Bitton Archers has become a place where every archer can take aim and find their rhythm.
